Tuskegee Mayor Urges Alleged Gunman To Surrender

Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford is urging the alleged gunman in the shooting of four Tuskegee University students and a fifth person to come forward now.  Last Sunday, four Tuskegee University students along with a fifth person were injured by gunfire at an off-campus house party.  Mayor Ford stresses justice will be served.  Ford says the investigation is ongoing and believes the alleged shooter will be captured.

Committee Leadership

House Speaker Mike Hubbard announced the leadership for committees in the newly elected Alabama House Wednesday.  Many of the same Representatives will chair committees they took over four years ago.  Hubbard says he is confident in the group's abilities.  Legislators have been meeting in an organizational session that occurs every four years to choose legislative leaders and approve operating rules.  The Senate is expected to take similar actions.

Charges Dropped

A prosecutor has dropped a misdemeanor domestic violence charge against Republican State Sen. Tom Whatley of Auburn.  Auburn prosecutor Rich Davidson said he filed a motion to dismiss Wednesday in Auburn Municipal Court.  He said that after studying the case, he decided it didn't warrant prosecution.  Auburn Police arrested Whatley on Dec. 9th on a charge of third-degree domestic violence.  Whatley and his fiancee, Lindsay Waits, disputed the police account last month and said there was no violence.
