Three Montgomery Men Charged with Capital Murder

Montgomery Police have charged three men with capital murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred a week ago Thursday, on Margaret Ann Drive.  Authorities said 34-year-old Joe Valerio was shot to death.  MPD said the motive was robbery.  The three suspects; 18-year-old Antonio Easterly, 24-year-old Ronald Arms and 28-year-old Casey Murphy are each charged with a single count of capital murder.  All three are being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Facility. 

ASU Band Director Honored

Alabama State University's Band Director, Dr. James Oliver was honored by the City of Montgomery Thursday.  The leader of the Mighty Marching Hornets was recognized by Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and other elected and community leaders for his excellent work at ASU.  Strange declared September 25th as James Oliver Day in the city.  Dr. Oliver said he was overwhelmed by all the support and attention.  Dr. Oliver has been the university's band director since 2000. 

Montgomery Marathon

Montgomery's first full marathon is set for March of 2015.  Details of the race were announced Thursday at the mayor's weekly press briefing.  Like the city has done for several years, there will still be a half-marathon and a 5K run.  Mayor Todd Strange says the city plans to incorporate a portion of Maxwell Air Force Base into the marathon route as well as part of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail.  3,500 people are expected to participate.  Race Day is March 14th.
