Three Finalists for New Montgomery Police Chief

The search for a new police chief appears to be nearing a conclusion.  Montgomery Public Safety Director Chris Murphy says the evaluation process has narrowed the list to three internal candidates.  A vetting committee composed of citizens and law enforcement will interview the three candidates Monday and then make their recommendation.  Director Murphy says Mayor Todd Strange will make the final decision. Murphy is optimistic that a new chief will be named within the next two weeks.

Youth Initiative

Montgomery City and County leaders provided an updated Thursday on a set of youth initiatives that have been in progress for the last few months.  Organizations like the YMCA, The Nehemiah Center, the Parks and Recreation department, Montgomery Public Schools and may others have come together to attend to the needs of young people.  Montgomery Parks and Recreation Director Rob Spivery estimates that some 18,000 youth have participated in at least one of the programs offered over the summer.

LAMP Relocation

Montgomery Public Schools Superintendent Margaret Allen has issued a letter informing parents that the Loveless Academic Magnet Program will be moving to a temporary location.  The move comes after several problems, including sagging windows and a shift in the building's structure, were discovered.  Donald Dotson, Assistant Superintendent for Operations with MPS says a permanent location for LAMP has not been identified but officials are leaning towards the former Montgomery Mall.  LAMP will move into the former Houston Hill building near Cramton Bowl by Thanksgiving.

Fuller Case

A lawyer representing a federal judge isn't saying whether the jurist will step down over his arrest in a domestic violence case.  Attorney Barry Ragsdale declined comment Thursday on statements by U.S. senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions who are calling on Montgomery Federal Judge Mark Fuller to resign.  Ragsdale says Fuller is still working through the complaint process initiated by a Federal Appeals Court in Atlanta following his arrest on a domestic violence charge last month.  That process could result in action including a reprimand or a court request for Fuller's resignation.
