2015 Legislature

Republican Governor Robert Bentley will test his influence with the Alabama Legislature as he tries to convince lawmakers to approve a $541 million tax increase.  The bulk of the money, $405 million would come from two sources: raising the sales tax on automobile purchases from 2 to 4 percent and increasing the tax on cigarettes.  GOP leaders of the House and Senate say the governor's tax increase plan will get a fair hearing.  The session begins Tuesday at noon.
