Three Charged in Capital Murder in Montgomery

Three teenagers have been charged with capital murder in the September armed robbery and shooting death of a man outside Burger King in Montgomery.  Police have identified the suspects as 19-year-old Martavius Tyus, 19-year-old Jordan Graham and 17-year-old Travon Williams, all from Montgomery.  They are being held in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Dundrell Young in the 2200 block of East South Boulevard.  All three are in the Montgomery County Detention Facility under no bond.

Rates Improving

Alabama's graduation rate for the 2013-2014 school year rose to 86.3 percent, good enough for the second highest increase in the country.  The state improved from 80 percent the prior academic year.  That's according to data released this week by the U.S. Department of Education.  Public Information Manager for the Alabama Department of Education Malissa Valdes-Hubert says the improving graduation rate is the result of programs that increase student engagement and encourage innovation.   Alabama saw jumps in gradation rates for students of all races, all income levels and for students with limited English proficiency.  Children with disabilities was the only group of students showing a decrease.

Child Support Forum

The Montgomery County District attorney and prosecutors are looking for ways to make improvements to the child support system.  Dozens of parents filled a courtroom Thursday to voice their concerns and suggestions.  District Attorney Darryl Bailey says he's decided to focus on prosecuting dead beat parents, be they male or female.  The Montgomery County Department of Human Resources handles approximately $17,000 child support cases annually.
