According to the American Farm Bureau Federation the coast of a classic Thanksgiving meal this year is just over $49 dollars. That's a decrease of nearly 44 cents from last year which Federation economist John Anderson says is almost completely attributable to the price of the turkey. Anderson says stable energy prices and a year without drought has helped hold prices in check.
Underage Drinking Campaign
The Council on Substance Abuse teamed up with Alabama State University's HPER Club and Student Government Association Monday to announce the "Protecting Our Streets: Speaking Out Against Underage Drinking" campaign. The program is aimed at raising awareness about the risk factors associated with consuming alcohol before the age of 21. Nick Rankins, a Behavior Health Prevention Specialist, said it's important for parents and children to hear this message right before the holidays.
Senior Thanksgiving Meal
Nearly 80 seniors were treated to a free Thanksgiving meal Monday in Montgomery. The feast was held at the McIntyre Community Center and hosted by students and teachers from Alabama State University's Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department. Center Director Greg Crawford said for the past ten years he's been working to feed seniors in need. The meal was open to seniors 60 and above.
