Teenage Shooting Suspect In Custody

Montgomery Police say a teenage male is in custody in connection with a shooting Sunday afternoon on Ann Street that sent an adult male  and a 9-year-old boy to the hospital.  17-year-old Grenden Jordan of Montgomery faces attempted murder, second degree assault and reckless endangerment charges.  He was placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $250,000 bond.  

Ford's Letter

Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford is pleading with Governor Robert Bentley and Attorney General Luther Strange not to appeal a Montgomery judge's order that opens the way for the VictoryLand Casino complex to reopen.  Ford made the appeal in a letter sent Monday to Bentley and Strange.  The Tuskegee mayor argues that Circuit Judge William Shashy issued a fair decision regarding VictoryLand.  He said the VictoryLand closing resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs and tax revenue for schools, governments and charitable organizations.  

Actor's Request

Actor Sam Waterson of "Law and Order" fame has joined a group of religious leaders, attorneys and others to ask the Alabama Supreme Court for a new trial in the case of a death row inmate convicted in the 1987 fatal shooting of convenience store clerk Linda Offord in Sylacauga.  At a news conference Monday in Birmingham, the coalition said they believe a new trial could lead to the exoneration of William Kuenzel who has maintained his innocence.  

ASU Watch Party

Alabama State University is inviting the public to watch the first Democratic party presidential debate set for tonight at 8 p.m. the viewing will take place in the Levi Watkins Learning Center, a pre-debate discussion starts at 7:30 p.m.  The unexpected rise of Bernie Sanders will be on display as he and Hillary Clinton meet face to face.  Three other Democrats, Martin O'Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chaffee are hoping to gain ground with strong performances tonight.  

Principal Announces Candidacy

The principal of Prattville High School has announced his candidacy for the school superintendent post in Elmore County.  Richard Dennis made the announcement in Holtville.  Dennis is a former teacher and administrator in the Elmore County School system.  Current Elmore County School Superintendent Dr. Andre Harrison has said he will seek re-election.
