Teenage Gunshot Victim Identified in Montgomery

A fatal shooting that occurred Thursday in Montgomery is now being considered a homicide.  A statement by police says 19-year-old Kendre Williams of Montgomery was taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead.  Emergency personnel were initially called to the 3800 block of South Court Street on the shooting.  No arrests have been made and the circumstances surrounding the murder are under investigation.  Police ask anyone with information on the incident to call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP, Secret Witness at 262-4000, or the Montgomery Police Department at 625-2831.

Revenue Debate

Deep budget cuts and a special session appears inevitable after lawmakers failed to reach a revenue agreement Thursday.  Senators adjourned Thursday before voting on a bill to transfer $100 million from the Education Trust Fund to the more cash-strapped General Fund.  Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh says Thursday was "frustrating."  Marsh says the Senate is not willing to pass new taxes, and a special session is expected.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The Beasley-Allen Law Firm has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a Kentucky-based trucking company on behalf of the family of Montgomery Police Officer David Colley.  The 24-year-old Colley was killed April 4th in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Narrow Lane Road and South Boulevard.  Beasley-Allen said in a statement the suit names TUI Express and driver, Yasin Steve Conley-James.  The suite alleges that Conley-James violated federal trucking laws by attempting to conceal his duty status.  Attorney said a duty log indicated the driver was fatigued at the time of the crash.  The lawsuit was filed in Montgomery Circuit Court.
