By Ship casinos in Mobile Bay will not be raided, director says
Mobile, AL – - Mobile County District Attorney John
Tyson Jr., who heads the governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling,
says cruise ship casinos docking in Mobile Bay are "not a
problem" under state law.
Democratic lawmakers who support gambling have worried that
casino ships in Mobile Bay could be subject to raids for violating
state law. Tyson tells the Press-Register he has previously looked
into the issue as district attorney.
Gov. Bob Riley appointed Tyson to lead the task force Monday
after former Jefferson County District Attorney David Barber
resigned after acknowledging that he won $2,300 at a Mississippi
casino.
The task force has worked for more than a year to shut down
gambling halls across the state using litigation, seizures and
armed raids.
