Talladega Woman Killed Working in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense says an Alabama woman has been killed in Afghanistan.  54-year-old Krissie Davis of Talladega died Monday during an indirect fire attack on Bagram Air Force Base near Afghanistan's capital city.  The Pentagon said Davis was a veteran civil servant for three decades.  She is the first civilian deployer with the Defense Logistics Agency in Anniston to die from combat-related injuries.

Dead Bills

More than 500 bills were unsuccessful in their bid for passage in the 2015 regular session of the Alabama Legislature.  Many bills dealing with hot-button topics were too controversial to make the cut, like a medical marijuana measure that initially passed a Senate committee.  Other high-profile bills died as well, dealing with abortion clinics, marriage ceremonies, payday loans and handguns.  One of the most controversial measures of all, the general fund budget was vetoed by Governor Robert Bentley.  He plans to call a special session this summer to pass a General Fund budget more to his liking.

Operation Save America

The anti-abortion group, "Operation Save America" is planning to bring its nationwide campaign to Montgomery in July.  The Montgomery Advertiser reports as many as 300 people could participate in a week long series of protests next month at clinics in Montgomery, Mobile, Huntsville, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.  OSA National Director, Reverend Rusty Thomas said Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore will speak to the group.  The organization supports Moore's opposition to same sex marriage.

National Trails

The U.S. Park Service has added Autauga Creek to its national trails system.  Autauga Creek's 13 mile canoe trail is one of 10 new trails announced Monday that have been designated a National Recreational Trail.
