Summer Heat Pushing Power Bills Higher

Alabama residents are bracing for the summer months when power bills skyrocket.  WVAS News talked with Alabama Power about ways to control the cost of cooling one's home.  Spokesman Mike Jordan says ceiling fans are a good place to start.  Other fans, like box fans or oscillating fans, placed in various rooms will also help move the air around.  Jordan says changing out air filters each month and setting the thermostat at about 78 degrees are other power saving tactics.  The company's website, Alabamapower.com has even more information on the topic.

Search Continues

A search continue for an escapee from a state prison facility.  Corrections Department officials say 53-year-old Jimmie Lee Collins walked away from the Red Eagle Work Center last night.  He was reported missing just after 9 p.m.  DOC said Collins is serving a 40-year prison term for a 1990 robbery conviction.  Anyone with information regarding Collins' whereabouts is asked to called 800-831-8825.

Medical Clinics

Medical clinics are operating in Macon and Barbour counties through June 25th.  The Delta Regional Authority has teamed up with military reservists from the Army, Air Force and Navy to offer medical, dental and eye screenings at sites in Tuskegee, Eufaula and Clayton.  You do not have to be a resident of Macon or Barbour County to participate, the medical screenings are free of charge.
