April is Autism Awareness Month

Storm Season

The National Weather Service says despite a couple of strong storms this season, it appears Winter 2013-14 will end up in the normal range for Alabama.  Birmingham Weather Service meteorologist Matt Anderson says, taken by itself, January was extremely cold.  Anderson says the Weather Service is expecting drastically warmer temperatures in the next couple of weeks. 

Fatal Fire

Montgomery Fire Department personnel extinguished a house fire on Murray Street near downtown early Thursday afternoon.  WSFA is reporting that an 89-year-old woman was killed in the blaze.  Officials do not believe anyone else was home at the time of the fire.  Investigators are trying to determine a cause. 

Traffic Fatalities

Alabama State Troopers are investigating traffic fatalities in Chilton and Dallas counties.  Troopers said a Montgomery man was killed in a single vehicle crash Thursday night near Selma.  24-year-old Jerry Tyus died when the SUV he was driving left the roadway and overturned.  The wreck occurred on Dallas County 56, near the Selma City limits.  Troopers said Tyus was not wearing a seat belt. 

In Chilton County, Troopers said a Dothan woman was killed Thursday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 65 North about ten miles north of Clanton.  Troopers said 50-year-old Mary Pelican of Dothan was hit by a vehicle at about 5 p.m. 

ASU Technology Camp

About 250 eighth graders from Montgomery Public Schools attended Alabama State University's Information Technology camp.  The 3rd annual event featured mini camps in Google Maps, Designing Web Sites and Game Programming to name a few.  The event was sponsored by ASU's College of Business Administration and local computer departments.
