Snowy Weather

A winter storm is taking shape for the deep South, another very cold arctic air mass will settle into central Alabama through Wednesday.  Upper level disturbances interacting with the advancing cold air will produce some wintry precipitation which could include freezing rain and sleet, but mainly snow.  Montgomery Public Works Director Chris Conway said preparations are already in place.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is already open and accepting people in need of a place to stay during the winter storm.  The American Red Cross said it stands ready to open additional shelters if needed.  Montgomery Public Schools, Barbour County Schools, Dallas County Schools, Tallassee City Schools and Crenshaw County Schools will be closed through Wednesday.  Autauga County and Elmore County Schools will dismiss at 11 a.m. Tuesday and be closed Wednesday.

Work Session

The Montgomery County School Board held a work session Monday aimed at improving facilities within the district.  MPS Superintendent Margaret Allen started the meeting with a challenge to the board to move forward.  The regular meeting for the board set for Tuesday has been canceled due to the threat of severe weather.
