Severe Weather Threat

Weather experts and emergency management agencies are keeping their eyes on a cold front approaching the state from the West.  National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Anderson says a volatile mix of elements is coming together.  Anderson says the storms could come in several rounds over the course of two or three days.  Flash flooding, damaging winds and tornadoes are all possibilities with this system.  Residents are advised to review emergency plans and to make sure all devices providing weather alerts are working properly. 

Knight Retiring

Dr. John Knight is retiring as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Alabama State University.  Dr. Knight is leaving the university because he is seeking re-election for the Alabama House seat for District 77.  He has not announced exactly when his retirement will take effect.  Knight has been a part of Alabama State University since 1976. 

Electronic Cigarettes

The federal government wants to stop the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors under regulation proposed by the Food and Drug Administration.  A Government Relations representative for the American Cancer Society in Alabama says the proposal is long overdue.  The proposal also includes requiring approval for new products and health warning labels.  There is no timetable for the proposal to be finalized.
