Senator Ross Supports "Ban the Box" Legislation

So far 19 states and more than 100 cities and counties have adopted so-called "ban the box" policies that block employers from asking applicants about their criminal history during the initial application process.  State Senator Quinton Ross of Montgomery will sponsor similar legislation in the current regular session.  Ross made his comments on the WVAS Perspectives talk show this week.  Birmingham added its name to the list of cities banning the box Thursday as Mayor William Bell signed an executive order to protect applicants for city jobs from automatic disqualification over their criminal records.
