Senator Beford's Push for New Law

State Senator Roger Bedford says he pushed for passage of the state's new expungement law because of all the stories he was told about people with criminal charges that were eventually dismissed.  Individuals were unable to find jobs or get scholarships because of the arrest, even though they were ultimately not convicted.  The Democrat from Russellville says eligible residents will have to follow a legal process.  The law does not cover felonies in which violence was involved.  It goes into effect July 7th.

Crash Details

The accident that claimed the lives of a former Auburn football player and another man may have been alcohol-related.  Georgia state police say in a report that alcohol use is suspected in the single-vehicle crash.  23-year-old Phillip Lutzenkirchen, a former Auburn tight end and 23-year-old driver Joseph Davis were killed in the Sunday morning accident.  Their SUV overturned on a road near LaGrange.  Troopers say 22-year-old Elizabeth Craig of Eatonton, Georgia and 20-year-old Christian Case of Dadeville, Alabama were injured.  The Georgia Department of Public Safety report indicates that all four occupants are suspected of alcohol use.  Blood tests were carried out on Davis and Lutzenkirchen and those results are pending.
