Second Suspect Arrested in Montgomery Murder

A second male is behind bars today charged in connection with the November 11th slaying of a 33-year-old man on Troy Highway.  Montgomery Police said 25-year-old Justin Cunningham is charged with capital murder for the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Trevis Green, the victim was gunned down in the 4000 block of Troy Highway.  Police have already arrested 26-year-old Terrance Butler, also of Montgomery.  He is also charged with capital murder.  Cunningham and Butler are being in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.  

Cell Tower Compromise

Montgomery's mayor is urging homeowners upset over AT&T's plan to construct a cell phone tower in the Deer Creek subdivision to approve a compromise.  Councilman Glenn Pruitt said he will meet with residents to discuss the settlement.  But Pruitt says Deer Creek residents will have the final say.  

Smoking Ban

The Montgomery City Council did delay consideration of a proposed ordinance that would prohibit smoking in bars and restaurants.  Ashley Lyerly, chairperson of the smoke free Montgomery Coalition, sees no problem with such a ban.  The anti-tobacco ordinance will be reviewed by the City Council at a December 8th meeting.  

Record Lows

Forecasters at the National Weather Service say several Alabama cities, eight in all recorded record low temperatures this morning.  Below freezing temperatures set a new mark in Montgomery where it was 16 degrees early today breaking a record low set in 2008.  Birmingham's thermometer dipped to 18 degrees.  It was 19 degrees in Alexander City; Anniston, Fort Payne, Huntsville, Muscle Shoals and Tuscaloosa, also recorded lows.  Even Mobile could not escape the deep freeze, where it was 23 degrees this morning, breaking a record set in 1951.
