Rove Denies Any Role in Siegelman Indictment
Birmingham, Alabama – Former White House adviser Karl Rove is denying ever talking with federal prosecutors about a criminal investigation of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.
The Birmingham News is reporting that transcripts of questioning by lawyers for the democratic majority of the House Judiciary Committee included Rove's comments about Siegelman.
Rove was being questioned on his role in the firings of U.S. Attorneys around the country under former President George W. Bush. According to the Birmingham News, a portion of the interview focused on Siegelman's indictment in 2006 on corruption charges.
Rove was asked if he had any communication with either Siegelman or anyone in the Alabama U.S. Attorneys' offices - Rove's response was "not that I'm aware of".
Siegelman has repeatedly alleged Rove used Republican appointed prosecutors to target him because Siegelman believes he was a threat to Republican Governor Bob Riley.
