Ron Sparks accuses Artur Davis of flip flop on tax issue

By Sparks criticizes Davis for taking different stance on taxes for timber companies

Montgomery, Al – - Democratic candidate for governor Ron
Sparks says his opponent, U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, is saying one
thing in Washington about timber companies and another in Alabama.
Sparks held a news conference Thursday, where he said Davis is
calling for higher taxes on out-of-state companies that own large
tracts of timber in Alabama, but in Washington, he proposed
legislation to give a $500 million a year tax break to timber
companies.
Davis said Sparks doesn't understand the issue. The congressman
said he proposed cutting the federal capital gain tax on timber
companies because it was too high and was making it hard to compete
with foreign timber companies. He said the situation is different
in Alabama, where out-of-state timber companies pay little taxes.
