By Anti-tobacco programs in Ala get failing grade
Montgomery, AL – - A new national report ranks Alabama 47th
in funding programs to stop young people from smoking and getting
adults to stop.
The study from a coalition of health organizations said Alabama
spends $2.1 million a year on tobacco prevention and cessation
programs.
The president for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Matthew
Myers, said Wednesday that Alabama is one of the most disappointing
states when it comes to funding to keep children from smoking. The
coalition says nearly 27 percent of high school students in Alabama
smoke.
