Repairing VictoryLand

The owner of VictoryLand in Shorter says his casino sustained more damage in a February 2013 police raid than he had previously thought.  Milton McGregor tells the Montgomery Advertiser in Wednesday's edition that he expects to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs, primarily to repair wiring.  Despite the issues, McGregor said he's determined to reopen VictoryLand before the end of the year.

Suspect in Custody

The Montgomery County Sheriff's office says a man wanted for assaulting two sheriff's deputies last Sunday is in custody Wednesday.  Michael Thomas Conway was apprehended Tuesday afternoon off Wares Ferry Road.  Conway is accused of assaulting two deputies Sunday morning near the Sunshine Village trailer park.  He was a suspect in a domestic violence incident.  Conway is charged with two counts of assault on an officer, disarming a law enforcement officer, attempting to elude and failure to appear.  Conway is being held without bond.

Officer Pleads Guilty

Federal prosecutors in Montgomery say former Tallassee Assistant Police Chief Chris Miles has pleaded guilty to four felony charges linked to his treatment of a child sex abuse suspect in April 2013 and possession with intent to distribute 16 pounds of marijuana that was stolen from a police evidence room and later sold to a known drug dealer.  The U.S. Attorney's office said in a statement Tuesday that Miles entered guilty pleas to deprivation of rights, making false statements to the FBI and beating a suspect.  Miles is also charged with theft in Elmore county for stealing a pistol from the Tallassee Police Department.

Concert Canceled

Alabama State University officials say rapper Lil' Wayne is not scheduled to perform at a homecoming concert Wednesday night and they are investigating a fraudulent concert promoter that publicized the event.  ASU spokesman Ken Mullinax said the school has been in touch with Lil' Wayne's representatives and determined that he never arranged to perform in Montgomery.  He said the school will pursue litigation against the fraudulent promoter.  Mullinax said fans who purchased tickets online should contact eventbrite.com for a refund.

Chicken Wings Recall

Tyson Foods is recalling more than 52,000 pounds of chicken wings after customers complained that they had a bad odor.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture also says that some customers reported falling ill after eating the wings.  The recall is for its 28-ounce bags of fully-cooked Tyson Any'tizers Hot Wings prepared last month in a Buffalo style coated with a tangy sauce.  The bags have "Best If Used By" dates of October 24th, 2016 and October 25th, 2016.  They were sold nationwide.
