Rain, Jubilee Help Shrink Britain's Output

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

NPR's business news starts with the U.K.'s shrinking economy.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

MONTAGNE: Britain's gross domestic product fell seven-tenths of a percent from the first quarter. That's much more than expected, and the most in three years. Output shrank in part because of unusually rainy weather and the extra public holiday because of the Queen's Jubilee. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
