Penison Fund to Study Alabama Prepaid College Tuition Fund

Montgomery, Alabama –
(AP) - The state Legislature wrapped up its 2009
session without solving the financial problems in Alabama's prepaid
college tuition plan. But it did pass a resolution to have the
state pension fund conduct a detailed study of the program.
Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. serves on the board that oversees the
tuition program, and he pushed for the study. He says the study
should be sufficient to keep the board paying tuition for the
upcoming college year while the study is conducted.
The board meets Wednesday in Montgomery to discuss the future of
the program.
All bills that were introduced in the Legislature to provide
money to the tuition program died.
