Church members at Aldersgate United Methodist Church are still reeling from the death of their senior pastor Wednesday. The Reverend Glenn Pugh, age 51, was killed in a crash on I-85 near Shorter. Troopers say he ran into the back of an 18-wheeler. No one else was hurt. An investigation into the wreck continues. A prayer service was held at the church on Vaughn Road last night.
ASU Day
Today is ASU Day at the Statehouse when Alabama State University will hold its "I Support ASU Rally" on the Alabama State House steps. Students, faculty and staff of the university will engage with senators and representatives about the importance of ASU to the River Region. The ASU Mighty Marching Hornets Band and the school's cheerleaders will participate in the rally at 9:15 a.m. All members of the Hornet Nation and the public are invited to attend.
Troops Return
A homecoming will unfold at the Montgomery Regional Airport this afternoon. Twenty members of the 908th Airlift Wing will return home to Montgomery after a seven-month deployment to Southeast Asia. The Reservists will arrive in two groups, the first is scheduled to land at around 2 p.m, and the second at approximately 4 p.m. Members of the squadron were responsible for protecting aircraft, the flight line, and the perimeter of the Transit Center in Kyrgyzstan.
