March is Women's History Month!

Ousted USDA official visits West Ala., announces meeting with ex-boss

By Sherrod plans meeting with Ag. Secretary Tuesday

Epes, AL – - Former USDA official Shirley Sherrod says she
plans to meet with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this week to
discuss a new job offer.
Sherrod was forced to resign last month after a conservative
blogger posted excerpts from a March speech depicting her as
racist. The NAACP joined others, including the USDA, in condemning
the remarks before grasping the full context of the story, which
was meant as a lesson in overcoming racism.
The White House and the NAACP have since apologized and Vilsack
also offered her a new position, which she has not yet accepted or
declined. The two plan to meet on Tuesday.
Sherrod spoke on Saturday in Sumter County at an event hosted by
the Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund. NAACP executive
director Ben Jealous shared the stage with her at a panel
discussion.
