Online Meeting Leads to Murder in Selma

A Selma man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in the death of a man he arranged to meet with online.  24-year-old Carl Edward Brown pleaded guilty to murder Monday in the death of 47-year-old Julius Burnett, who worked as a paralegal in Birmingham.  Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson says Burnett, of Clanton, met Brown through Craigslist and arranged to meet him on New Year's Day 2012.  Jackson said Brown fatally shot Burnett and stole his vehicle and credit cards.  Brown was charged with capital murder and five counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.  Jackson says Burnett was gay and the slaying appeared to be a hate crime.
