New School Buses in Montgomery

The Montgomery County School Board approved the purchase of 15 new school buses.  At a Thursday meeting, board members voted to spend slightly more than one million dollars.  The school board also approved allowing a church organization to sell a tract of land in Pike Road they purchased in 1970.  The school board agreed to remove a provision that prevented the land from being used for educational purposes.  

Local Motors

A Phoenix-based automobile company, Local Motors showcased the technology for electric vehicles on the campus of Alabama State University Friday.  Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd says she is excited about the opportunities of growth and collaboration at ASU, particularly in the STEM field, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  David Woessner, General Manger of the Detroit area says he is looking for universities to be a part of the plan.  Local Motors is a technology company that designs, builds and sells electric vehicles.  

Recycling Plant

Montgomery's mayor says he and others are working to reopen a high-tech recycling facility in north Montgomery.  Representatives from Infinitus Energy shut down the plant on Louisville Street citing sluggish sales in the commodities market.  Mayor Todd Strange is urging residents to take a wait and see approach on what to do with their recyclable trash.  Strange made the comments on the "Second Thursdays" show on WVAS-FM.
