MPD Urges Pedestrian Safety

The deaths of three pedestrians on Montgomery streets this year has prompted police to urge people to exercise common sense at busy intersections.  Montgomery Police Sgt. Brian Champlin says a pedestrian must remember that drivers are easily distracted.  Sgt. Champlin also says a pedestrian who illegally crosses a street could face a disorderly conduct charge.  

Teenage Suspect

Police in Millbrook say a 16-year-old male has been charged as an adult for his alleged role in a home invasion robbery.  Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said 16-year-old Kelton Williams faces robbery and burglary charges in connection with a home invasion that occurred last Saturday at a residence on Oak Tree Loop.  Millbrook Police are looking for two other suspects.  Johnson said the homeowner was assaulted and robbed.  

Found Safe

Authorities on Alabama coast say a woman and six children who were the subjects of an Amber Alert early Wednesday were found safe in rural Baldwin County.  According to police in Foley, a domestic dispute prompted the children's father to abduct the couple's six children and their mother Nora Grenier.  Foley police said 27-year-old Eloy Gutierrez was charged with domestic violence.  Authorities said Gutierrez has a history of domestic abuse.  

Bankruptcy Filing

The nation's largest coal company, Walter Energy has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Birmingham.  Al.com reports the company which operates major coal mining operations in Alabama, reported huge losses due to a decreased demand for coal.  The U.S. Energy Department said natural gas has surpassed coal as the top source of electric power generation for the first time ever this year.  New regulations make coal more risky for power generators.
