More Chilly Weather

Another winter storm is headed for north Alabama, forecasters say they're expecting a major winter storm in the Tennessee Valley region along with snow and freezing rain in north central Alabama this week.  Forecasters are expecting snow and sleet from 3 p.m. today to noon Tuesday.  Forecasters are expecting between 2 and 4 inches of snow in parts of north Alabama.  Meanwhile, rain will dominate the forecast for central and south Alabama at least through Wednesday. 

New Abortion Law

The state of Alabama and the American Civil Liberties Union are sparring in federal court over the impact of Alabama's new abortion law.  Federal Judge Myron Thompson heard arguments Friday during a hearing in Montgomery.  The disputed part of the law requires abortions doctors to have hospital admitting privileges.  Thompson previously blocked the law from taking effect.  The judge says he will rule on the law before that order expires on March 24th. 

Alabama Power

Dozens of families living on property owned by Alabama Power in Tallapoosa County have been given six months to find new places to move their trailer homes.  Alabama Power is closing Pleasure Point Park and Marina on Lake Martin because of issues pointed out by the Tallapoosa County Health Department, including possible septic tank failures and wastewater discharged. 

Dual Enrollment

State lawmakers are looking to expand a dual enrollment program that allows high school students to earn college credits in technical fields.  The Montgomery Advertiser reported Sunday that both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have presented bills to bolster the state's Career-Technical Dual Enrollment program.  Governor Robert Bentley's proposed budget for next year includes $6 million dollars for the dual enrollment program.
