"Moral Monday" Rally in Montgomery

Political activist Rev. William Barber was in Montgomery Monday for a rally on the steps of the State Capitol.  Members from several groups including the NAACP gathered to support Medicaid expansion, immigration reform and other social change.  Barber says Governor Robert Bentley dropped the ball when he chose not to expand Medicaid and that his and other's political agenda is based solely on their hatred of President Barack Obama.  Barber says the fight is not against Republicans but against extremist who are trying to control government and dilute voting rights. 

LAMP Move Approved

Students in the Loveless Academic Magnet Program will soon be moving into another building now that the Montgomery County Board of Education has declared the old one unworthy to conduct classes in.  Superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools Margaret Allen says the building is not in danger of collapsing, but substantial problems exist.  Once the former Houston Hill Junior High School on Hall Street is cleaned up, it will serve as the temporary home for LAMP.  Allen says a decision has not been made on what building will eventually house the program. 

Jury Selection

Jury selection is under way in Lee County for the capital murder trial of a man charged with killing two former Auburn University football players and another man.  Potential jurors reported Monday for the trial of 24-year-old Desmonte Leonard.  Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker says jury selection could be finished by Thursday or Friday.  Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Leonard. 

Missing Pilots

Authorities in Southeast Alabama have identified the men believed to aboard an antique single-engine plane that went missing last Tuesday near the Alabama-Georgia state line.  Henry County Sheriff William Maddox says the men are retired Army pilots Steven Haase, the owner of the plane and his friend, David Marlow.
