Moore Found Not Guilty

Jurors found Republican Rep. Barry Moore of Enterprise not guilty of charges of perjury and giving false information.  Prosecutors had accused Moore of lying to a grand jury about comments he made to his 2014 primary opponent.  Acting Attorney General W.Van Davis said Moore told his opponent that the house speaker would withhold economic development funds unless he withdrew from the race.  Moore later denied relaying the threat when he testified to a grand jury.  However, defense lawyers contended that Moore told the truth to the grand jury.  The said prosecutors were trying to exaggerate Moore's statements that were captured in recorded conversations.

Ebola Preparations

Governor Robert Bentley and State Health Officer Dr. Don Williamson talked to reporters Thursday about Alabama's preparations for any possible Ebola cases.  Dr. Williamson says the Department of Public Health has just completed a survey of the state's hospitals.  Williamson says Ebola cases in the U.S. are extremely rare, which is why he is more concerned about people getting vaccinated for the flu.  State health officials have begun monitoring anyone traveling to Alabama from three countries where Ebola outbreaks have occurred.

NABV Honored

The Autauga County Extension System has partnered with the National Association of Black Veterans to honor service men and women from across the state.  Thursday's Stars and Stripes Brunch is the first of many events that will be used to record veterans' stories in an online database.  Yvonne Thomas, Autauga County Extension Coordinator, says she was overwhelmed by the veteran turnout.  Thomas says the extension system will provide online assistance to veterans throughout the program.
