Montgomery's 45th Homicide

The Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in the early morning shooting death of 19-year-old Roy Buskey of Montgomery.  Police charged 27-year-old Enrico Cornley of Montgomery with one count of capital murder.  Cornley was taken into custody Tuesday morning and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.  The circumstances surrounding the shooting were initially unknown, but further investigation indicates that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a cell phone.  Buskey's death is Montgomery's 45th homicide of 2013.

Hurricane Season

Forecasters say the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, which officially ends Saturday, will go down as one of the least-active years ever.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that there were only two hurricanes this year, the fewest since 1982.  National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Westland says the 13 named storms for the year was about average, but the lack of intensity is what stands out.  An average Atlantic hurricane season produces six hurricanes, with three of them being "major."  Westland says the lack of a La Nina weather pattern and drier than expected air inhibited the formation of hurricanes this year.

Fatal Crash

A man that was involved in a single-vehicle crash on November 17th has died from his injuries.  Montgomery Police say 47-year-old Joseph Young Jr. from Fairfield was pronounced dead Monday at Baptist Medical Center South.  He was reportedly operating a motorcycle on the Northern Boulevard when he left the roadway trying to exit onto Lower Wetumpka Road at about 2 a.m.  This is the city's 19th traffic fatality of the year.
