April is Autism Awareness Month

Montgomery Youth Clean-Up

An effort to help beautify the city of Montgomery is being held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Voting Rights March.  Montgomery Academy student Ken Ward wants young people from all over the area to participate in the cleanup initiative.  Ward is organizing the event along with help from the city, Montgomery Public Schools, Bridge Builders of Alabama and Alabama State University, among others.  It's being held on President's Day, February 16th.  High school and college students can register at handsonriverregion.org.  Groups are also welcome.  

High School Sexual Assault

Police are investigating a reported sexual assault at Auburn High School.  Auburn City Schools Superintendent Karen DeLano tells the Opelika-Auburn News an arrest has been made in the sexual assault, which was reported Tuesday.  Auburn Police said a 16-year-old boy has been arrested and is charged with rape and sexual assault.  In a statement, authorities say that the teen victim and suspect were acquaintances.  The boy has been charged as an adult and is being held in the Lee County Jail on $125,000 bond.  

Youth Music Workshop

American Idol's Jessica Meuse will be in Montgomery Friday evening.  The 2014 Idol contestant will be sharing her experience in the music industry at a Youth Music Education workshop.  Alabama State University's Recording Technology Assistant Professor Emery Kidd is a member of the Montgomery Area Musicians Association, the organizer of the event.  The workshop will be open to students from the 6th to 12th grade, children younger than 15 must be accompanied by an adult.  It will be held at Wishbone's Studio at 2625 Zelda Road beginning at 6:30 p.m.  A portion of the ticket sales will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Chisholm.
