Montgomery Undergoes Budget Cuts

Montgomery, Alabama – The next mayor of Montgomery will grapple with a disturbing trend sales tax revenues in the Capital City are down 11.3 percent for January.

This as neighboring Prattville reports a 70 percent increase in sales tax revenue collections.

Montgomery's sales tax revenue is down about $4 million from this time last year. Interim Mayor Charles Jingright has placed the city under a two percent budget cut for all departments that could free up about $3 million.

Meanwhile, Prattville's mayor says that city's sales tax figures may be off because tornado damage impacted Prattville's ability to process data last year which caused collections to appear extremely low for 2008.
