The historic Webber building, renaming Holcombe Street and a proposed moratorium on package stores were among the hot button issues addressed at Tuesday's city council meeting.  Mayor Todd Strange says the city has sold the crumbling Webber building for one dollar.  Meanwhile, members of the Bernard Whitehurst family say they will not give up on efforts to rename Holcombe Street located near the downtown district.  Stacy Whitehurst said it would mean a lot to the family.  On the issue of limiting the number of package stores in west Montgomery, Councilman David Burkett has tabled his proposal for now.

New Board

A new state board will oversee Alabama's two-year college system.  Alabama lawmakers on Tuesday gave final approval to legislation to remove the community college system from the oversight of the state Board of Education and give it to a new board appointed by the governor.  Legislators voted to go along with a change proposed by Governor Bentley.  A state senator requested the amendment stating that all board appointments had to be confirmed by the Alabama Senate.
