Montgomery school officials announce crack down on truancy

By Nine parents arrested in crackdown on truancy violations

Montgomery, AL – - School officials in Montgomery say nine
parents have been arrested after an investigation aimed at curbing
truancy.
Montgomery Public Schools and the district attorney's office say
they've been working together on a Helping Families Initiative
designed to cut down on truancy under federal Safe Schools and
Healthy Students grant.
School district spokeswoman Mona Davis said that in addition to
the nine arrests, another dozen cases are being processed.
Davis said the nine parents arrested were in violation of the
Alabama Compulsory School Attendance Law, which requires everyone
between the ages of 7 and 17 to attend school.
