Montgomery Sales Tax Collections Decline

January 5,2009 – The Montgomery City Council meets tonight, no doubt declining sales tax revenues will be on the minds of Council members.

Sales tax collections in the capital city for November 2008 were down 14 percent from November 2007 figures. The decline in sales tax revenue means the city will have less to spend on city government functions.

City Council President Charles Jinright has been sworn in as interim mayor. Jinright says that budget adjustments are likely.

The election to fill the seat being left vacant by Bobby Bright will be held in February or March.
