Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange Seeks Re-election

The current mayor, Todd Strange announced Thursday he is running for re-election.  Strange says he ultimately decided there were too many projects he wanted to see finished.  The mayoral race will be held August 25th.  

Davis Candidacy

Former Congressman Artur Davis has announced his candidacy for Montgomery's mayoral race.  Davis represented the 7th District of Alabama in Congress from 2003 to 2010.  The Montgomery native made the announcement via YouTube Thursday.  The video presents Davis' view on education, crime and economic development in the city.  

Sewell Meeting

Congresswoman Terri Sewell will be in Montgomery Friday to host a town hall meeting.  The event is part of Sewell's "Congress in Your Community" tour.  The town hall meeting will allow residents to voice their concerns and hear updates on various legislative programs in Congress.  The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Montgomery's City Hall.  

Mural Winner

A new piece of public art will become a permanent part of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March route.  The Montgomery Public Arts Commission selected a mural design proposed by local artist Sunny Paulk out of 13 applications submitted nationwide.  Paulk says she is passionate about promoting public art and the civil rights movement.  The mural will be painted on an outside wall of the former Olive Room Restaurant on Montgomery Street.  The mural is scheduled to be complete by March 1, 2015.
