Montgomery Man Faces Murder Charges

A 26-year-old man is in jail charged in connection with the death of a Montgomery shooting victim.  Montgomery Police have charged Channing Crumblin with murder in connection with the death of 41-year-old Kevin Thrasher.  The victim was shot multiple times on November 14th and was dropped off at a local hospital.  MPD declined to say what day Thrasher died or where he was shot.   Crumblin is being held in the Montgomery County Jail under a $75,000 bond.  

Bentley Supports DOT

Governor Robert Bentley says he fully supports a decision by the state Department of Transportation to widen a stretch of U.S. 431 through Eufaula's historic district to four lanes.  Bentley said the widening will cause little to no interruption to the historical nature of the street that is lined with homes form the 1800s.  Opponents say it will wreck the historic district's character and they plan to sue.  

Talton's Firing Upheld

A federal board has upheld the firing of James Talton, the former director of the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System.  The Montgomery Advertiser reports in today's edition that the move comes two months after VA officials determined that Talton had failed to perform his duties and was cited for misconduct.  Talton, who appealed his dismissal, was placed on paid leave in August by VA Deputy Secretary Sloan Gibson.  Talton's termination was upheld Wednesday by the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board.  

3rd Grader Dies

The 8-year-old Elmore County girl who was hit by a vehicle on Deatsville Highway earlier this month has died.  Judy Caton, a spokeswoman for Elmore County Schools, said Raven Edwards, a third-grade student, died Wednesday afternoon at Children's of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.  Elmore County Sheriff's officials said the youngster was running to a school bus when she was struck by a vehicle on November 5th.
