Montgomery Man Arrested Recently in Huntsville Murders Served time for 1998 Shooting Death in Montgomery

Montgomery, Alabama – The Montgomery man facing double murder charges in Huntsville is not new to charges of committing violent crime.

Huntsville Police are holding 28 year old Wilbert James Smith for allegedly killing two male college students in August 2008.

Smith served less than five years in prison for the 1998, gang related, drive by shooting of a 15 year old in Montgomery. Court records show that Smith admitted to being the driver in the fatal shooting. Multiple arrests occurred in the case. Smith was released from prison in 2004 after he argued that his record while in prison showed he had been rehabilitated.

Police say Smith's latest victims, a 24 year old Selma man and 28 year old Mobile native were both students at Alabama A & M.
