Montgomery Man Accused of Killing Father

A Montgomery man is accused of murdering his father.  Police said 26-year-old Antuan Franklin has been charged with murder in connection with last Tuesday's stabbing death of 55-year-old Jimmy Brazzle.  Police said the victim was slain in the 600 block of Buckingham Drive.  According to authorities the fatal stabbing stemmed from an ongoing dispute.  Franklin is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

No Action

A spokeswoman for Governor Robert Bentley says he will not take any more action pertaining to the Confederate flag issue.  Al.com reports the statement from Jennifer Ardis comes after Montgomery County Probate Judge Steven Reed asked Governor Bentley to issue a proclamation that would order the Sons of Confederate Veterans to redesign a license plate which features the flag.  Ardis said Governor Bentley will not take any further action on Confederate issues.

Return Request

The owner of VictoryLand is asking the state to return seized gambling machines and cash as the Macon County casino looks to reopen.  Lawyers representing the casino filed the motion Tuesday after a judge last month ruled against the state's two-year effort to shutter the casino.  Last month, Montgomery Circuit Judge William Shashy ruled the seizure violated the principle of equal protection since other electronic bingo operations remained in business. Shashy dismissed the state's attempt to keep more that 1,600 machines and more than $260,000 seized in the raid.  The attorney general's office is appealing to the Alabama Supreme Court which has previously ruled electronic bingo is illegal.
