A new college football game is coming to Montgomery; officials announced Tuesday that the Montgomery Kickoff Classic will officially jumpstart college football season. The game will feature two of the current top-ranked FCS teams in the nation, Jacksonville State University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Pete Derzis, Senior Vice President, ESPN Events says the Montgomery community has been very supportive and successful in hosting our events. “The facilities are excellent, hotels are convenient to the stadium and things are reasonably priced in Montgomery,” said Derzis.
Guardian Credit Union will serve as the title sponsor of the game, which makes this the first large scale event the bank has hosted. Marketing Manager for Guardian Rachel Stewart says since the bank has become the local credit union, it’s important for the company to take part in the initiative.
Montgomery County Commission Chair, Elton Dean said the partnership with ESPN provides Montgomery with exposure opportunities and others to see what the city can offer.
The game will take place on August 26 at 5 p.m. at Crampton Bowl.
