A Montgomery City Councilwoman Plans to Run for Governor

Montgomery, Alabama –
(AP) - Montgomery City Councilwoman Martha Roby
says she will be a candidate for the Republican nomination for the
2nd District Congressional seat currently held by Democratic U.S.
Rep. Bobby Bright of Montgomery.
Roby said she has filed a statement of candidacy with the
Federal Election Commission. That allows her to begin raising
campaign funds.
Roby said she has used a "common sense" leadership style in
her six years on the city council and promised to use that same
approach in Congress. She described herself as conservative and
said she wants to represent the "hardworking people" of central
and southeast Alabama.
The 2nd District stretches from Dothan in the southeast corner
of the state to Prattville and Wetumpka north of Montgomery.
