Montgomery City Council Members

Montgomery Probate Judge Stephen Reed says results from the Montgomery municipal and runoff elections have been officially certified.  Fred Bell, Brantley Lyons and William Green will officially take their seats on the City Council next month.  During Tuesday's city council meeting, Mayor Todd Strange said a orientation session starts Wednesday's morning.  Montgomery City Council members Tuesday night heard from activist Rose McCall, a member of the Montgomery Transportation Coalition.  McCall is urging city officials to consider adding routes to the VA Hospital and the Hyundai auto plant.

Political Summit

The Political Awareness and Involvement Committee of the Montgomery Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is assisting residents to clear criminal records and also restore voting rights.  Chapter President, Pamela Hill says the Expungement and Voter Restoration Rights Summit will provide information on ex-offender employment and other community resources.  The Summit will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Carver High School from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Attorneys will be present to explain the process and offer assistance in completing the forms for expungement.

Autumn Colors

Many autumn color enthusiasts travel all over the eastern United States taking in the annual change of seasons.  Alabama officials say residents don't have to look farther than their home state for a brilliant display.  Urban and Community Forestry Partnership Coordinator for the state Will Liner says to expect the brightest colors soon.  Liner names points in north Alabama like Oak Mountain State Park, Bankhead National Forest, Lake Guntersville State Park or the Fort Payne area as the best spots for autumn color viewing, but he says even places as far south as Montgomery can be suitable, like the Montgomery Aboretun or the riverfront.
