Montgomery Boy Dies in Strange Incident

Authorities say a Montgomery boy has died 10 days after being hurt when a sport-utility vehicle slammed into an apartment building.  Police say 6-year-old Aiden Howard died in a hospital on Sunday.  The child was injured Feb. 12th when a SUV rammed through the side of an apartment unit.  Police say the driver, 28-year-old Juan Daniels was fighting with a man and drove the vehicle into the apartment intentionally.  The boy was visiting inside the apartment at the time and was seriously injured in the crash.  Police are still looking for the Daniels.  Authorities obtained a warrant for attempted murder against Daniels, and police say the charge could be upgraded now that the boy has died.

Sheriff Recovering

Authorities in central Alabama say a local sheriff has suffered minor injuries in a car crash.  Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson tells the Montgomery Advertiser that Autauga County Sheriff Joe Sedinger was hospitalized after a crash on U.S. Highway 82 Monday morning.  Thompson says two cars collided and ran into the department-issued vehicle that Sedinger was riding in.  Details on injuries to the drivers of the other two cars weren't immediately available.

Smart 911

Autauga County residents can now use a new emergency information system called Smart 911.  The free service allows users to create a safety profile that can only be used for emergency purposes through the 911 system.  The service also allows users to link both home and work addresses to cell phones which can be sent to emergency responders through the system.  The profiles can be found at www.smart911.com.
