Mentor Protégé Program in Montgomery

A Department of Defense initiative is benefitting a local technology consulting firm as well as students at Alabama State University.  The Mentor  Protégé program allows large veteran companies to work with young, comparatively small firms in helping them boost their participation in prime and subcontract awards.  In this case, Tec Masters of Huntsville is mentoring Consulting Technology Experts or CTE of Montgomery.  CTE Vice President Keith Ellis says the collaboration also involves interns from ASU.  The Mentor Protégé relationship usually lasts about three years.  

Shooting Conviction

A man convicted in the shooting death of an off-duty Birmingham police officer was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.  Media outlets report 42-year-old Patrick Johnson was sentenced Monday.  In October, he was convicted of felony murder in the 2014 shooting death of Birmingham Police Officer Keary Hollis.  A jury reached a deadlock on a verdict in May and Johnson was tried again in October.  Jefferson County Circuit Judge Clyde Jones said the shooting was an inexcusable act.  

Block Party

'That's My Child" a local youth foundation hosted a block party at the corner of Rosa Parks Avenue over the weekend in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.  The block-party included re-enactments, live performances and local speakers.  Jonathan Peterson, with TMC says its a chance to educate a younger generation.  Founder Charles Lee, says the mission of That's My Child is to be a big brother to teens by giving them a positive outlet to develop their talents, learn new skills and stay off the streets.
