Man Beaten By Birmingham Police Files Lawsuit

Birmingham, Alabama –
(AP) - A man who whose beating by five
Birmingham police officers was caught on video at the end of a
high-speed chase has filed a lawsuit against the officers, the
chief of police and the city.
The suit was filed Tuesday in Birmingham district court by
Anthony Warren's attorney, Wendy Crew. It seeks monetary damages
and asks the court to order changes in police officer training.
The January 2008 beating, while Warren was apparently
unconscious, was captured on a police dash camera video. A version
that included the beating was not discovered by local prosecutors
until March and made public last week.
The five officers were fired and police chief A.C. Roper ordered
an internal investigation to determine if others knew about the
beating but did not report it.
