Major Drug Arrests

Alabama authorities say 25 people have been arrested on federal and state charges following a five month investigation into drug trafficking in Montgomery.  State Attorney General Luther Strange says the state charges are severe.  Court documents indicate that authorities confiscated approximately $800,000 in cash, 11 vehicles, 10 firearms and around 9 kilograms of cocaine.  The operation reportedly moved large amounts of narcotics from Atlanta to Central Alabama.  

Ross Hospitalized

WSFA reports Montgomery Public School Board member Beverly Ross was admitted to a Montgomery hospital late Monday evening.  Public School officials would not divulge specific details of why Ross was admitted.  The officials say her family and friends have received an outpouring of calls of support.  The educator holds a degree from Alabama State University and is a member of multiple boards in the River Region.  

Intervention Programs

Montgomery County's top prosecutor is touting the success of two intervention programs designed to reduce the number of suspensions and dropouts in Montgomery County Schools.  District Attorney Darryl Bailey says during the 2013-2014 school year there was a 20 percent drop in school suspensions and a 15.5 percent decrease in truancy cases.  District Attorney Baily said the suspension and truancy intervention programs are part of the Helping Montgomery Families Initiative.  

Coffee and Cops

Patrons at the International House of Pancakes on the South Boulevard participated in "Coffee with a Cop" Tuesday.  Customers asked questions and voiced concerns to Montgomery Police officers as well as exchanged ideas.
