Leonard Found Guilty

Desmonte Leonard has been found guilty of capital murder.  The jury deliberated for much of the day before convicting Leonard for the shooting deaths of two former Auburn University football players and third man.  The 24-year-old Montgomery man was charged with fatally shooting ex-Auburn players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips and also Demario Pitts at a a pool party in Auburn in June 2012.  Three other people were wounded.  The jury also found Leonard guilty of attempted murder and assault.  Jurors rejected his claim of self-defense.  Leonard could face the death penalty. 

Senior Study

Governor Robert Bentley lifted a page from his campaign advertising at a press conference on the steps of the state Capitol Tuesday.  He stool alongside the 60 Plus organization as it released a new study of the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan.  60 Plus conducted the study which asserts that the EPA plan would cause utility rates to spike and coal-mining jobs to disappear.  The Clean Power Plan seeks to cut carbon pollution by 30 percent from the 2005 levels.  A public comment period is in progress until December 1st of this year.  More information on the plan is available on the EPA's website.  

ASU Concert

Alabama State University is making big plans to host powerhouse Soul and R&B singer Patti Labelle.  The legendary songstress will perform in concert on March 7, 2015 at ASU's Dunn-Oliver Acadome in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March.  The concert will also honor those living unsung heroes who participated in the march.  Names and contact information are being accepted at ASU's Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture.  The center's number is (334) 229-4824.
