By Ala House approves bill to make it harder to use handicap parking spaces
Montgomery, AL – - The Alabama House has passed a bill that
would make it harder for an able-bodied person to use someone
else's handicapped placard to get a better parking space.
The House voted 102-0 Thursday to pass a bill that would require
the handicapped placard to include a person's driver's license
number or their photo. The sponsor, Democratic Rep. Tommy Sherer of
Jasper, said the purpose is to make it harder for able-bodied
people to park in handicapped spaces.
Democratic Rep. Jack Page of Gadsden said he has been
temporarily disabled in the past and knows how critical handicapped
parking spaces are for people who really need them.
The bill now goes to the Senate.
